Department 'ignoring us' on Nenagh barracks
The Department of Defence is ignoring Tipperary Co Council's requests for action on the millitary barracks in Nenagh, a recent district meeting heard.
District Administrator Rosemary Joyce told the April meeting of Nenagh Municipal District that the department was to have sent an official to look at littering and other issues at the site. This has not yet happened.
Cllr Séamie Morris said the department is "ignoring us". He again called for a derelict site notice to be used to force action on the site. Cllr Morris also observed that monuments grants are available and could be used for a feasibility survey of the site.
Cllr Michael O'Meara said he would stop short of using a derelict site notice. He wanted to see the barracks restored, as has been done successfully in other parts of the country.
Cllr O'Meara agreed that funding could be found to clean up the site and make it safe. He supported Cllr Morris' call for a meeting with the Department of Defence.
