Busy times at St Joseph’s CBS, Nenagh

Engineering Taster Morning

Fifth Year students enjoyed a great experience at the Engineering Taster Morning in Technological University of the Shannon Limerick this week.

There were tours, demonstrations and visits to the lecture halls of the university. The boys learned about Electronic Engineering, Renewable Engineering, and Precision Engineering, to name but a few.

Thanks to all at TUS for their hospitality and we look forward to seeing you again in October for their open day!

Past Pupils part of Tipp Senior team

On Saturday last Tipperary and Waterford senior hurlers played in round three of the Munster Championship. This was an eventful game, where the sides could not be separated. All of us here at St Joseph’s CBS Nenagh are thrilled to have had five past pupils named in the starting fifteen and one further past pupil who was ready to make an impact off the bench. It is testament to all the great work that has been done in the local GAA clubs, at primary and post primary levels.

Well done Barry Hogan, Craig Morgan, Jason Forde, Jake Morris, Seán Hayes, Seán Kenneally, Michael Bevans and all the Tipperary senior hurling team on a never say die performance.

National Active Schools Week

National Active Schools Week took place from April 29 - May 3. This was great initiative to get staff and students to be more active, through different concepts of physical activity. During the week students engaged in soccer matches, tug of war and walks in the community. Great fun was had by all. Well done for participating. Thanks to our PE department for organising all the various events.

Nenagh Heritage Centre

Ms Young's Transition Year Irish class took a visit to Nenagh Heritage Centre during the week to learn more about the gaol gatehouse and prison buildings.

The boys all managed to fit into a cell, which once held people who were sentenced to death. On the same day they visited Nenagh Castle, where they learned about the history of the castle since it was built around 1200.

Eoin takes on ‘QuidGame’ for CBS

Best of luck to Eoin Kennedy who is playing in Kilruane MacDonaghs GAA Club QuidGame on behalf of St Joseph's CBS Nenagh.

QuidGame takes place in the Abbey Court Hotel Nenagh on Friday, May 10, from 7pm till late.

Eoin is the father of Third Year twins, Charlie and Cormac. Both boys were on our victorious U17A Dean Ryan hurling panel this year. Eoin is a seasoned juvenile hurling and camogie coach and spends a lot of his time on the sidelines supporting and coaching Kilruane MacDonaghs.

We are hoping Eoin can help secure a golden ticket to gain an advantage on the night through the donations he receives. If you would like to donate by visiting https://www.clubspotevents.com/kilruanegaa/eoin-kennedy.

Rice Cup Panel through to Final

St Joseph’s CBS Nenagh had their Rice Cup Panel 1 out on Monday in the Semi-Final of the competition. The Green, Tralee, were the opposition. On the back of their semi-final win against Thurles CBS the CBS boys were ready for a challenge.

The game started even enough with both teams trading early scores.

It wasn't long before full forward, Senan O'Leary scored an impressive goal.

The Green answered well and were winning at half time on a score line of 10 points to 1-3.

Nenagh CBS came out fighting in the second half and scored 9 unanswered points to take a five-point lead. The game swung again in Tralee’s favour after they scored two quick goals, and suddenly, Nenagh found themselves a point behind again.

Then Nenagh changed gears, a cracking ball into the full forward line from Ronan Quinn was taken superbly by Senan O'Leary who stuck it in the net to put Nenagh back ahead.

From there they never looked back, two goals from James O'Dwyer, a goal from James Ryan and eleven points from captain Oisin Hogan meant Nenagh took full control.

This coupled with an unbelievable display from the backs resulted in a final scoreline of 5-15 to 2-14. This was an outstanding display from the team and we look forward now to the final. Thanks to their coaches Mr Paul Dolan and Mr David Hogan for all the hard work with the boys all year!
