Nenagh and Lorrha drawn in battle of North champions

Either Nenagh Eire Og or Lorrha will have their hopes of a three-in-a-row of North Hurling Championships end in the first round of the divisional senior hurling championship after they were drawn together.

Following the draw which took place in the Hibernian Inn (sponsors of the senior championship) on Wednesday evening, back-to-back senior champions Nenagh will face a Lorrha side that have won the North intermediate and premier intermediate titles also in the last two years in what is a unique match-up of champions. It will also be the first two meetings between the sides as they have also been drawn in the same group of the county championship.

The pick of the four quarter finals is the clash between Kiladangan and Borris-Ileigh who have been familiar foes in recent years, including an exciting draw in the county championship last year. There is also a rematch from the 2023 county championship between Roscrea and Toomevara who both made big strides forward last year and will feel a North Championship is a possibility while the final quarter final is between Kilruane MacDonaghs and Templederry Kenyons.

The dates for the North Championship games are dependent on how far Tipperary get in the championship, with the likelihood being they will begin in July if Tipperary fail to reach an All-Ireland final, and August if Liam Cahill’s men reach the July 21st showpiece.
