Green light for Tipp solar farm

Tipperary Co Council has granted conditional planning permission for a large solar farm within the townland of Monaincha, Roscrea.

Soleire Renewables SPV Alpha 2 Limited is to install a 34.11-hectare/84.28-acre solar farm at lands known as Brehony's Bog. The solar farm is to consist of 72,850 solar photovoltaic (PV) panels mounted on steel support structures.

Among the ancillary developments planned are 12 transformers, 106 CCTV cameras, 3.8km of fenceline and internal access tracks. A temporary compound measuring 5,000 sq m will be established during the construction phase of the solar farm.

The Brehony’s Bog solar farm is to be connected to the national grid via a 110kV loop-in substation, located immediately to the south of the bog. This substation will export renewable electricity from other solar farms in the immediate vicinity that have received planning permission from Tipperary Co Council.

The Brehony’s Bog solar farm is to operate over a 40-year period, after which it will be decommissioned, with all associated lands returned to their original use.
