Munster Senior Hurling Championship

Tipperary’s Munster Senior Hurling Championship campaign got off to a disappointing start last Sunday in the TUS Gaelic Grounds as we suffered a fifteen-point defeat to a very impressive Limerick side, 2-27 to 0-18.

This result will come as a major hammer blow to players, management, and supporters. However, all focus must now turn to another away assignment this Saturday in Walsh Park, when we take on a Waterford side who will be buoyed up by their recent victory over Cork in round 1.

The game throws in at 6.00pm and will be broadcast live on GAAGO and Tipp FM. There will also be full match updates on the Tipperary GAA X account.

I would appeal to all Tipperary supporters who have tickets for the game to travel to Waterford on Saturday and get behind the players in what is now a very important and indeed must win game.

Munster Under 20 Football & Hurling Championships

Our under 20 footballers exited the Munster championship following defeat to Kerry last Wednesday evening on a full time score of 1-15 to 1-10.

Tipperary, despite losing, will be happy that they put it up to the Kingdom in the opening half. Albeit outplayed by Kerry in the third quarter, they rallied late on with the impressive Orrin Jones and substitute Daithi Hogan adding 1-4 to the Tipp total.

The Tipperary under 20 hurlers will play Cork in round 4 of the oneills.com Munster Under 20 Hurling Championship this Friday, May 3rd at 7:30pm in FBD Semple Stadium, Thurles.

Having already defeated Limerick and Waterford in the opening two rounds, both players and management will be well in the knowledge that Friday’s game will be another big challenge for the group. The game will be broadcast live on TG4, but I would encourage as many Tipperary supporters as possible to head to the game to support the team.

Munster Minor Football & Hurling Championships

The Tipperary Minor Footballers played Clare last evening (Tuesday) in the Munster Phase 1 Final but there was no result at the time of going to press. However, both teams will progress to the Munster semi-finals where they will play Cork or Kerry next Tuesday, 7th May.

The Tipperary Minor Hurlers will be hoping to make it three wins from three this Thursday evening when they welcome Clare to FBD Semple Stadium for a 7.00pm throw in. We wish players and management the best of luck.

Tipperary Clubs Draw

The May Clubs draw takes place this Friday and will be hosted by the Templederry Kenyons club. The draw will commence at 9.00pm and will be broadcast live on Tipp FM.

Friends of Tipperary Football Golf Classic

The Friends of Tipperary Football Annual Golf Classic will hold its annual Golf Classic in Dundrum this Friday 3rd & Saturday 4th May.

The format once again is a champagne scramble and the cost for a team of 4 is €160. Tee Box sponsorship is also available for €50, which includes the name of each sponsor on a sign at the tee box.

This is our main fundraiser of the year, and we are hoping that you will be in a position to either enter a team or sponsor a tee-box. All proceeds go towards the advancement of Football in Tipperary from underage up to the senior team.

Over the years, this classic has garnered a reputation as being one of the most enjoyable events on the golfing calendar. To book a tee time, contact Martin Dwyer 0862549154, Alternatively, payment for teams or tee boxes can be made on the day by cheque, card, or cash.

Darkness into Light

Darkness into Light Pieta’s Sunrise Appeal takes place this year @ 4.15am on May 11th.

Each year thousands of people across Ireland and abroad participate in Darkness into Light raising funds to enable Pieta to provide supports to people impacted by suicide and self-harm. Since the inaugural walk back in 2009 GAA clubs have joined local charities for this event which is billed as the most important sunrise of the year. Each year the walk provides an opportunity for people to connect with their local community to remember loved ones lost and to look to a brighter future.

Tipperary GAA Health & Wellbeing Committee are once again appealing for clubs to promote this worthy cause by providing details to their members and local communities of the many walks taking place throughout the county. Walks presently listed include: Carrick-on-Suir, Clonmel, Ballina /Killaloe, Nenagh, Roscrea, Thurles & Tipperary Town.

Clubs can also create their own Darkness into Light by organizing their own special event on the day or at a different date and time.

Further information on registration for walks, venue updates, register an event can be completed through darknessintolight.ie.

clubs can win €5,000 in 'eir for all' Poc Tapa Challenge

eir, Ireland’s leading telecommunications provider, is calling on GAA clubs to take part in the ‘eir for all’ Poc Tapa Challenge to be in with a chance to win up to €5,000 for their club and the chance to play in Croke Park on All Ireland Semi-Final Day.

Building on the success of last year's inaugural competition, the competition forms part of eir’s continued sponsorship of the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, celebrating the speed and skill of modern hurling. The Poc Tapa challenge is inspired by the age-old “Poc Fada” competition and has been reimagined to reflect the speed of the modern hurling championship.

The competition is based on the quickest team of up to six people to pass a sliotar around the four corners of a pitch. The team that gets the ball back to base in the fastest time will win the competition.

Elite GAA players Declan Hannon, Limerick, Shane Kingston, Cork, Eoghan O’Donnell, Dublin, and Conor Whelan, Galway, were on hand to film an explainer video in Croke Park to show participants how it’s done which can be found on www.gaa.ie.

This competition is open to every GAA club in Ireland, and is designed for all ages, in any venue from local clubs to the national stadium. To enter the ‘eir for all’ Poc Tapa challenge, teams must film a video of their fastest time captured from the centre of a pitch, with the stopwatch used held in frame at the beginning and end of the clip. The video must be uploaded to either Twitter (@eir) or Instagram (@eir.ireland) using the hashtags #eirforall and #PocTapa.

The fastest team in the country will win €5,000 for their club, and a chance to play in Croke Park on All-Ireland Semi-final Day. There are also many other great prizes on offer for participating clubs.
