Preparations ongoing for popular summer event

Preparations are in full swing for this year’s North Tipperary Agricultural Show, which takes place on August 5 - Bank Holiday Monday. The show is one of Ireland’s oldest and best shows and celebrates its 149th anniversary this year. The show, which has always traditionally been an agricultural show, has become a great family day out with the addition of live music and entertainment, kiddies’ amusements, live pet farm, vintage cars, hot food stands and much, much more along with all the traditional sections and categories associated with the strong agricultural traditions of the show. The show is a true celebration of our community, people and their livelihoods.

NEW CHAIRPERSON

This year Catherine Lee takes over the reins as Chairperson of the North Tipperary Agricultural Show after Brendan Murphy finally puts down the top hat after a four-year tenure in the hot seat. Catherine is no stranger to the North Tipp Show as she and her family have been collectively involved in the running of the show for generations. Catherine’s father Johnny Lee and brother Declan Lee were both former chairpersons of the show, and her sister Sinead has been a committee member for a long time. Catherine is accompanied by Emma Daly as vice-chairperson for this year.

Last year we saw one of the biggest shows in years with entries and attendance figures well up on previous years, which is very positive for the future of the show.

The committee really pulled out all the stops to refresh the show by adding now attractions to the show and by introducing new categories in the horticultural section. It was the first year of the controversial ‘Pimp your Wellie’ competition - which gained much attention due to a typo in the original show press release - and caused a bit of a jiggle, however this year we hope to see a return of this popular category along with the many others in the horticultural tent.

Our very own local celebrity country singer Aishling Rafferty returns to the main stage again this year. We are delighted to have Aishling live again this year as part of our music act for this year’s show.

As we finalise the schedule and show entry listings for this year, we can look forward to all the traditional features and categories at this year’s North Tipperary Show - as we hope to build on the success of last year’s event.

It is our mission to not only host one of the best agricultural shows in years, but also to make this show ‘the best family day out of the year’ as we aim to have something for everyone at this year’s North Tipperary Agricultural Show.
