Re-drawn County Senior Hurling groups throw up mouth-watering pairings
The draws for the group stages of the 2024 FBD Insurance County Hurling & Football Championships were held in Lar na bPairce, Thurles over the last week.
Following the full draws last Thursday evening, a re-draw of the senior hurling championship groupings had to take place on Monday night after “an error was made when drawing the second seed teams” according to a Tipperary GAA statement.
What happened was Lorrha, as a third seed, were incorrectly drawn out as a second seed and while that error was immediately addressed, Lorrha were never put back in the draw drum for when the third seeds were drawn out and were last to be designated to a group.
“While the error was genuine, it was not rectified satisfactorily at the time,” added the statement, after the Roscrea club objected to the status of the draw with the Competitions Control Committee of Tipperary GAA ruling that the draw was deemed null and void and a new draw would take place.
The new draw has thrown-up a group of death with Toomevara, Drom & Inch, & Kilruane MacDonaghs, ironically drawn in the same group in the first draw, were joined by Borris-Ileigh.
The first round of games in the County Hurling Championships are scheduled for the weekend of 26-28 July with the Football Championship to start on weekend 2-5 August.
