Another pedestrian crossing needed in Templemore

Local councillors are calling for the installation of another pedestrian crossing in the town centre of Templemore.

The crossing was temporarily moved to near the post office while works were taking place at the town hall. The plan is to put the crossing back where it was at the town hall.

Cllr Eddie Moran raised the situation at last week's meeting of Tipperary Co Council. He said there should be two pedestrian crossings in the town centre.

In support, Cllr Michael Smith observed the major changes taking place in Nenagh with regard to raised pedestrian crossings. The business people of Templemore want something similar, he said.

Cllr Shane Lee was of a similar view and he hoped "common sense will prevail" in the matter.

Director of Services Liam Brett said a second crossing would require funding from Transport Infrastructure Ireland as it concerns a national route.

Cllr Moran was not happy with this response. He said there is a safety issue in Templemore as people are driving at speed through the town. Mr Brett said the council does not have funding to do anything about the situation at present but would discuss it with TII.
