Missing person search in the Birdhill/Newport area

At 8.30pm on Thursday last, Killaloe Coast Guard unit was tasked to assist gardaí with a missing person search in the Birdhill/Newport area. A large search operation commenced with the assistance of Tipperary Search and Rescue and over four hours later the person was located and transported by ambulance to University Hospital, Limerick. All units were stood down at 2am and returned to base.

At 11am on Friday, the Killaloe unit was again tasked to locate a 20-foot vessel taking on water in a harbour close to their station in Killaloe. A shore crew transported salvage pumps to the vessel but unfortunately the vessel had already taken on too much water and the crew was unable to assist. At 12 noon the shore team was stood down and returned to base.
