Black Mills session a huge success
Oh, what a night! Roscrea Heritage Society was delighted to welcome back the Delaney family (Martin snr, Martin jnr and Bríd) to kickstart the first of the Black Mills Sessions 2024.
The trio captivated the audience with a succession of well-known ballads, country hits, traditional Irish songs and musical theatre pieces.
They also treated the audience to a number of solo performances that showcased their individual styles.
Martin, snr, known both near and far for his musical talent, took the audience back in time when he performed poignant renditions of Ralph McTell’s ‘Streets of London’ and ‘Hard Times Come Again No More’ and delighted the audience with a stirring rendition of Séamus Doran’s ‘My Hometown of Roscrea’.
Martin, jnr (An All-Ireland winner in traditional singing), grabbed the attention of the audience with very popular songs such as ‘A Rainy Night in Soho’ and ‘Beeswing’ to name a few. He also performed a beautiful duet with Bríd with ‘My Belfast Love’, a song composed by Finbar Magee.
Bríd who is well-known to musical theatre lovers in Roscrea, having played many roles on the Abbey Hall stage with Roscrea Musical Society, again wowed the audience with a fantastic performance of Oom-Pah-Pah, from the 1968 musical film ‘Oliver’.
She also had the audience join in with many much loved songs such as ‘The Gambler’ and ‘Caledonia’.
Roscrea Heritage Society would like to thank Martin, snr, Martin, jnr, and Bríd for their fantastic performance on the night.
The society would also like to thank Eileen and the OPW for providing the venue, and last but not least, huge thanks to all who attended on the night - your support is greatly appreciated.
NEXT SESSION
Save the date! The next Black Mills Session will take place on Friday, April 26, when the society will host Passing Through (Bobby Fahy, Sinéad Browne and Colin Williams).
Passing Through came together through a love of songs and playing music. Their repertoire includes an eclectic mix of folk, blues, Americana and rock n roll.
They all bring their own style and taste into the mix and the society is looking forward to another great evening of music and song.
