MATCH DIGEST

Player of the Match: Danielle Ryan (Tipperary)

SCORERS – Antrim: Eobha McAllister, Mary McArthur (frees) 0-3 each; Janey McIntosh, Aimee Ferris 0-1 each.

Tipperary: Caoimhe Stakelum 1-5 (1-2 frees); Danielle Ryan 0-6; Elana McGrath 1-0; Ciara Shelly, Aoife Fitzgerald, Lucy Heffernan 0-1 each.

John Ryan’s side made the long trip to Glen Rovers GAA club in Antrim to take on the home-side, and having secured early round wins over Kilkenny and Galway, Tipp were firm favourites to come away with full points, and did so to confirm their place in the semi-finals with two games to spare.

They started brightly and with thirteen minutes gone had a three point advantage as they led 0-5 to 0-2 with two points each from Caoimhe Stakelum and Danielle Ryan with Lucy Heffernan also on target.

Antrim fought back with three points on the trot from Mary McArthur, Eobha McAllister and Aimee Ferris to level proceedings, but in the 22nd minute Elana McGrath found the back of the net to put Tipp back in front.

Another point from Danielle Ryan, who was excellent throughout, gave Tipperary a half time lead of 1-6 to 0-5.

The second half belonged to the visitors as they outscored the home-side 1-8 to 0-4. A point soon after the restart from Danielle Ryan was followed by a goal from a Caoimhe Stakelum free. Ryan and Stakelum continued to cause all sorts of problems for the Antrim defence and added another point each to leave Tipperary in front 2-9 to 0-7 by the three quarter mark, Antrim’s scores coming from Eobha McAllister and captain Janey McIntosh.

Tipperary got the next three scores in a row from play from Ryan, Stakelum and Ciara Shelly. Antrim found it difficult to break down the Tipp defence with Aoife Mellerick solid at full back and Caithyln Treacy very strong on the wing. Danielle Ryan got her sixth point of the game, all from play, and Caoimhe Stakelum pointed a free to complete Tipp’s scoring.

Next up for Tipperary is a home game with Munster rivals Cork on Sunday, April 7th.
