Busy days at St Joseph’s CBS, Nenagh

U16 All Ireland Badminton Champions

Congratulations to our U16 Badminton team, who are newly crowned All-Ireland Post Primary Schools Division Two Champions.

The team consisted of Jack Cholattu, Aiden Abraham, Stasik Setikas and Alex Ley. Well done, boys for adding an All-Ireland title to the Munster Badminton title secured in January. Thanks to their mentor Ms Christine Madden and their coaches in the local badminton club for all of their work with the boys.

U19 Team through to Rugby Final

Well done to the U19 rugby team on their comprehensive win in the O’Gorman Cup Semi-Final on Tuesday. The boys won 34-19 against a very strong SMGS Blarney team. We are incredibly proud that the boys have reached the final again. Thanks to Donach O’Donnell for his help on the day. A very special word of thanks to Mr Gary Miller for his work with this rugby team and all rugby teams in the school. All of us here at Nenagh CBS would like to wish the boys the very best of luck in the final as they defend the O’Gorman Cup.

Music Trip for Senior Students

Senior Music students travelled to the Irish World Academy in the University of Limerick to attend a concert by the multi-instrumental group Réalta. A great day was had by all. Thanks to our music teachers Ms Claire Spillane and Ms Laura Kearney for organising the trip.

Bitter Heartbreak for U14 Rugby Team

Well done to the U14 rugby players, who got to the Final of the Munster Emerging Schools competition last week. They drew in the final 10-10 but unfortunately they ultimately lost out as the opposition had scored the first try! The boys played some outstanding rugby and impressed everyone watching. This team shows lots of promise for the future. Thanks to Nenagh Ormond RFC for their continued support and to Mr Gary Miller, for his tireless work with all the rugby teams in school.

Entrance Assessments for First Year 2024/2025

We have had a record number of applicants, so we had to do the entrance assessment over two sittings on Friday and Saturday last. Thanks to all the parents and guardians who entrust us to ensure their son reaches their full potential at second level.

We are aware of a number of boys that had plans for this weekend so we will schedule a third entrance assessment during the month of May. The Sixth Class boys acquitted themselves very well and we look forward to welcoming them back at the end of August, when they set out on the next stage of their educational journey.

Go n-éirí leat to Sixth Year Students

It was a busy few days for many of our Sixth Years with oral exams in five different languages being undertaken at St Joseph's CBS Nenagh: Irish, French, German, Russian and Mandarin Chinese. Our Sixth Year Music students will complete their music practicals after the Easter break. We hope all their hard work pays off in the exams.

St Justin’s ‘Re-Turn’ to new machines

St Justin's class went to both the Tesco and Lidl stores to investigate how the new Re-Turn recycle machines are working for bottles and cans. This was real life experience of the classroom learning from recent lessons. The boys are very aware of the importance of taking care of our environment. Well done, lads and thanks to Mr Shane McElroy for organising this informative trip.

First Round of Rice Cup for First Years

Nenagh CBS had their Rice Cup Panel 1 out in action on Tuesday in the first round of the competition. The team headed into UL to take part in a blitz against a host of other teams in the competition!

First up was Doon. The game started even enough with both teams trading scores in the first half. Nenagh kicked into gear in the second half with a few quick goals, eventually winning the game by seven points.

Up next was Ard Scoil 2 with Nenagh in blistering form from the word go, dispatching Ard Scoil 2 by 21 points for a finish! The third game of the afternoon was against The Green, Tralee. This was the most anticipated game of the day with two fine teams giving it their all with Tralee eventually taking the win!

Finally, it was Rice College, Ennis and the boys were eager to put things right after the previous game. Doing just that, they showed great determination and skill in beating Rice College by 19 points to finish a superb day of hurling!

Well done, boys on qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition and thanks to their coaches Mr Paul Dolan and Mr David Hogan for working with the boys all year.

Easter Holidays

All at St Joseph’s CBS would like to take this opportunity to wish a Happy Easter to the staff, students and parents.

We hope it is a relaxing and enjoyable break for all. A reminder for all that there is no school for students on Monday, April 8, as staff have a Junior Cycle Training Day.

The third term commences on Tuesday morning, April 9, at 9am for students.
