Funding for St Flannan’s Cathedral
St Flannan’s Cathedral has received the welcome news that the application for Historic Structures Funding has been successful, and restoration work on this famous 13th century building can continue.
The entire community is grateful to Clare County Council, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, and our local/national representatives. Both Cathal Crowe TD and Cllr Tony O’Brien have been working with the select vestry at St Flannan’s Cathedral for several years to support the restoration work.
Funding previously awarded in 2021 and 2022 facilitated works on the Central Tower, cast iron windows and parapets. Now, phase 3 will see significant repairs to the west gable, the stained glass lancet window and the buttresses of the north and south walls, to prevent serious damage from water ingress.
