Board in favour of Toome' quarry

An Bord Pleanála has upheld a local planning authority decision in favour of a quarry extension at Toomevara.

Tipperary Co Council granted conditional planning permission to Seamus Ryan Sand and Gravel Ltd for an extension of the existing sand and gravel quarry at Ballybeg and Aghnameadle. Continued use of the site entrance and other features were included in the plan.

A third party appeal was listed in the name of Thomas Duggan, Coologue, Toomevara. Following a lengthy inspection of the case, An Bord Pleanála ruled in favour of the plan subject to revised conditions. The quarry was to only operate between the hours of 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am to 2pm on Saturday, unless otherwise agreed with the planning authority.

Also among the 17 conditions were requirements for an environmental management system; for the developer to remove an existing stockpile of quarry material at the entrance to the site, and for the developer to be responsible for maintaining the adjoining public road in a clean state.
