Job done for Cahill

By Shane Brophy

“We came here and got the job done,” was how Tipperary manager Liam Cahill reflected on his sides win over Antrim on Saturday.

About five minutes prior to throw-in, Tipperary discovered that a win or a draw would be enough to progress to the league semi-finals, but Cahill didn’t inform the players so to keep them focused on being professional, but it was a performance that was sufficient and nothing more.

“The players didn’t know, I knew before throw-in that it was a draw in Pearse Stadium so it is just as well as if we did (have to chase a score) it would have been up near the thirty point mark,” Cahill revealed.

“The conditions didn’t help, they were poor but in fairness to Corrigan Park, the pitch was in great condition considering all the rain that has fallen.

“It was a very stop-start game all through. Our handling, even though conditions were poor, I was disappointed with it early on, a lot of ball not sticking to hand, ball that we had primary possession of seemed to pop out and develop into a ruck situation was disappointing.

“We were a little bit flat, we travelled up early this morning, not making any excuses, but it has been a long day since 7.30 this morning.

“I’m just delighted to qualify for the last four and we’ll see what will happen next weekend.”
