Construction has started on the new €20 million primary healthcare centre on the former Nenagh Ormond Rugby Club's grounds at Tyone, Nenagh.

Work starts on construction of Nenagh primary healthcare centre

Building works have commenced on the new Primary Care Centre at the old Nenagh Ormond Rugby ground opposite the local hospital.

The news has been welcomed by local politicians, including Labour Party council election candidate, Louise Morgan Walsh. She pointed out that the new multi-million  euro facility will include Tusla services as well as a HSE outpatient and GP services.

The new centre will also incorporate surgery, dental and other treatment rooms.

“On completion, the HSE will offer a wide range of services including nursing, physio, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, social work, dietician, ophthalmology, paediatric network team, audiology, community intervention team (CIT), psychology service, home help, podiatry and dental and orthodontic services,” said Ms Morgan Walsh.

The primary care centre would also include a chronic disease management team, including community-based specialist service in the areas of cardiology, respiratory and diabetes.

The site will also include additional outpatient capacity for UL Hospitals Group. “These additional clinic facilities would essentially be an expansion of the facilities at Nenagh Hospital and would enable an increase of overall outpatient services from the level and type of services currently being provided locally,” said the Labour Party candidate.

Ms Morgan Walsh said the new facilities were ideally located adjacent to existing healthcare facilities in Tyone such as Nenagh Hospital and new St Conlon’s home.

The 80,000 square feet centre, estimated two years ago to cost in the region of €20 million, is being developed by Bluemont Developments (Nenagh) Ltd.
