Widows’ troubles in Lissenhall comedy

The stage is set and the Lissenhall Players are eagerly anticipating this year’s production of the hilarious farce, Widows’ Paradise by Sam Cree, taking place from this January 26-30 at 8pm.

Under the expert direction of Kevin Whelan, this three-act comedy is set in a ‘luxury’ caravan with five ladies embarking on a ‘women’s only’ weekend-away.

Ruby (played by Noreen Kelly) is a strong-willed widow who hates all men and is determined to make the other ladies follow suit. Her four musketeers follow along unquestioningly - Lucy (played by Marie Nagle) is a ditzy loveable character who must hide her never-ending desire to find true love. Vanessa, another widow (played by Alexis Kelly) is comically only interested in the finer things in life but has she an ulterior motive for the trip? Uptight but very entertaining Rachel (played by Breda Boland) is a relationship novice, terrified of men. Ruby’s gorgeous young daughter Sylvia (played by Emma Freeman) joins the trip to learn from their mistakes!

MALE LINE-UP

A comedy of errors sees the Widows’ Paradise thrown into disarray with the arrival of three men on a quiet weekend for female-free fishing. No nonsense, alpha-male Harry (played by Maurice Daffy), is joined by his dim-witted pal Ernie (played by Sean Butler) and Harry’s handsome son Alan (played by Shane Kennedy). The male line-up is bolstered by the hapless Wilfred (played by Conor Delaney) and local farmer John (Noel Stanley), looking for a wife/slave. What was supposed to be a scene of peace and tranquillity turns into a riotous clash of the sexes!
