Solidarity rally held in Roscrea

Call for Israel to stop its bombing of Gaza

Breandán Ó Conchúir from the Irish Palestinian Solidarity Campaign chaired the recent demonstration and spoke of the importance of international solidarity in bringing an end to Israel’s attacks on innocent civilians in Gaza.

It is over a month since Israel began its bombing campaign on Gaza and in that month over 10,000 people have been killed and over a million people displaced. Many of those displaced are already refugees in their own country, having been forced from their homes by Israel in previous attacks.

“It is vital that Irish people continue to stand in solidarity and lobby Irish politicians to do what they can to put international pressure on Israel to respect international law and end its attacks on civilians and its policy of illegal settlements in the West Bank,” said Breandán.

Mike McDonnell from Nenagh Friends of Palestine called for the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador, saying Ireland cannot continue to have diplomatic relations with a country actively involved in ethnic cleansing.

There will be another solidarity rally on Wednesday, Novebmer 29, at 6.30pm.
