Accolade for Nenagh Arts Centre
The Heritage Council congratulated the winners and runners-up across seven different award categories in a ceremony that took place recently in Gloster House, Offaly. Nenagh Arts Centre was amongst those recognised at the event.
The Nenagh venue was runner-up for the Sustainability and Climate Award, which recognises the event that that made efforts to incorporates environmentally friendly practices to reduce our carbon footprint and impact on the natural world or an event that provided education on the impact of climate change and good sustainability practice.
Their event, entitled Upcycled Streetscape, involved a workshop with young people aged 8 to 12 years who were shown how to use paper from old Arts Centre posters and programmes to create a collage of a local building or landmark.
The series of artworks was then exhibited as a streetscape of Nenagh which ran from August 12 to 31. The individual artworks allowed each young person to explore their creativity while growing an appreciation for our rich built environment.
The awards honour those organisers who created the most engaging and inspiring events and projects for National Heritage Week 2023 as well as Ireland’s Heritage Hero. Almost 2,000 events and projects took place around the country in August during National Heritage Week, as communities and individuals answered the Heritage Council’s invitation to explore this year’s theme of living heritage.
