Dangerous trees felled in Lorrha
The removal of dangerous poplar trees in Lorrha was conducted in early September, following a thorough assessment of the trees’ condition.
Landowners Eugene Mahon and Paddy O'Meara granted permission for the removal, recognising the potential threat these trees posed to public health and safety.
The trees, planted by the then members of Lorrha Development in the 1980s, had grown to a significant height, surpassing telephone cables in the area. The prevalence of storms in recent years further weakened the trees, making them particularly susceptible to falling during heavy gusts.
Section 70 of the Roads Act 1993 places responsibility for the maintenance of roadside hedges on the owners/occupiers of the adjoining lands. To facilitate the removal process, Tipperary County Council provided a grant through the Community Support Fund. This financial support allowed for the necessary resources and expertise to be allocated towards felling the trees.
Johnny Dwyer, tree-felling service, was entrusted with the task, completing the work in a timely and efficient manner.
By removing these dangerous poplar trees, the collaboration between the landowners and relevant authorities showcases a strong commitment to proactive measures and responsible land management.
