Roscrea Community Choir resumes on Tuesday, new members are very welcome.

Roscrea choir resumes

Roscrea Community Choir begin their 2023-2024 season on Tuesday, September 12, at 8pm in the Methodist Hall. As this is the 25th anniversary of the reforming of the choir, instigated by Mary Ryan and Terry Horan, we are busy planning a calendar of events!

First we join in the Methodist Harvest festival on September 24. We then hope to have a 25th celebratory dinner in Birr on October 20 and we are also busy trying to organise a Christmas concert in December!

As the choir resumes, we welcome newer and present members of all voice types! We are a four-part choir of 35 members. The choir has built up a large repertoire over the years and sing a mixture of music to suit all tastes, from Irish traditional pieces and sacred music to folk and musical numbers. We have participated in a number of festivals, both at home and abroad. Highlights include singing as the main choir for Pope John Paul II to a worldwide audience in the Vatican Square in 2001, singing at the Shonbrunn Palace, Vienna, and festivals and concerts in Lake Garda, Pisa and Prague... to name just a few! We have also performed at home for the Limerick Choral Festival and the Clontarf Festival. We sing locally as well for concerts, funerals and Masses.

While members take the business of preparing our singing pieces very seriously, we are equally determined to enjoy ourselves and love the social banter! The choir are warm and friendly and welcome all denominations as a cross-community choir and rehearsals are good fun! Term fees apply and can be given to Mary Kelly, treasurer by the end of October. If you are interested in joining the choir, text your name to Mary at 0863421244 or email roscreacommunitychoir@gmail.com
