Investment in Youth Services for Killaloe

The new Your Place Your Space UBU project operated by Clare Youth Service across the Killaloe Municipal District, was launched last week by Children’s Minister Roderic O’Gorman in Dublin. It is one of eight such new programmes around the country funded by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, in this case through Limerick Clare ETB.

Clare Youth Service Killaloe MD UBU is a project designed in partnership with young people. It has a particular presence in Killaloe, Scariff and Tulla but works throughout the Killaloe Municipal District and was set up in July 2022. The project is open to young people living in rural areas and/or those in need of additional support. The project supports young people 12-24 years.

The project provides improved access to safe, judgement free spaces where young people can meet with peers and obtain supports leading to greater opportunities for developing positive relationships, new skills and connections in their community.

- Youth Voice and advocacy - One-to-One support - Safe Spaces - Issue based programmes for example: Drug/Alcohol Awareness, Sexual Health, - Activity based groups: Cooking, Art, Music, Maker Space - Youth leadership programmes and training - Support and advocacy re employment, education and training.

In Killaloe the project operates out of the Family Resource Centre on the green. Staff and Volunteers run programmes run from Tuesday to Saturday in the centre and on an outreach basis. Anyone wishing to learn more can get in touch with Peter McNamara 085-8559351.

Youth Work Manager with Clare Youth Service, Jean O’Keeffe said: “The young people in the project were delighted to travel to Dublin to promote the work of the project at the national launch last week with seven other new UBU projects from around the country. The project was set up to address a clear need for youth supports in East Clare and the reception on the ground from youth people, parents and local community groups has been hugely positive and welcoming.”
