Barbecue and family fun day in Silvermines this Sunday

Is there anything to beat the smell of a barbeque wafting on the breeze on a fine summer day? Well, the Silvermines will experience just that when a fine feast from the hot coals is produced on this Sunday, July 2, for everyone in the parish and surrounding areas, who is invited for a nosh-up and to be treated to lots of family fun in a venture to raise funds for North Tipperary Hospice.

Traditional music from Tipperary’s finest young trad’ musicians, Trad Óg, will add plenty of jig to the open air event on Maurice Leamy’s farm, which is currently preparing to host the event that will not only see much needed cash generated for the hospice, but also for a new playground for Silvermines currently in the planning stages.

Chefs will fire up the grills and the musicians will kick off the fun at 3pm on the farm, situated in the townland of Ballygowan, about a mile from Silvermines village.

In a beautiful countryside setting there will be games, face painting, craft stalls, tea and coffee stand, sweet stands, burgers and hot dogs all available, with proceeds going to the two great causes. A raffle for some fine prizes will also be staged on the day. The prizes have been kindly donated by local businesses, and the organisers wish to thank their sponsors, including AIBP for their great help with this event.

GOOD WORK

North Tipperary Hospice do such wonderful work in our community, supporting our loved ones in some of their most difficult times. This is a great chance to recognise that great work and help them with their fundraising efforts.

Silvermines Playground Committee are a formidable group of young parents who have come together to secure a playground for the parish. A site has been located for the playground in the village, so now the work starts in raising funds to realise the dream of building a safe, fun space for the children of the area, and it is a very worthy cause to support in the parish.
