The late Billy Shoer. RIP.

Sympathy on passing of Billy Shoer

A moment of silence was observed at this week's meeting of Tipperary Co Council in memory of former councillor Billy Shoer, who died on Wednesday of last week.

Billy, a native of St Joseph's Park in Nenagh, was a member of Clonmel Borough Council and a Mayor of Clonmel. He also served on South Tipperary Co Council.

His Workers & Unemployed Action Group colleague Cllr Pat English paid tribute to Billy at this week's meeting of the county council in Nenagh. As well as the numerous WUAG and community campaigns he was involved in over the years in his adopted hometown, Billy was a keen fisherman and singer. Cllr English spoke of his involvement in St Mary's Church Choir in Clonmel. “One of life's gentlemen,” Billy would be greatly missed by the community, Cllr English said.

Cllr Hughie McGrath was born a few doors down from Billy’s home in St Joseph's Park. “There was a great community there,” Cllr McGrath said. “It's what made us what we are.”

While the people of Clonmel had taken him into their hearts, Billy had always remained a “proud St Joseph's Park man”. Cllr McGrath conveyed sympathy to Billy's family in Nenagh and Clonmel.

The meeting was adjourned for five minutes as a mark of respect for the deceased.

William (Billy) Shoer, Albert Street, Clonmel and formerly of St Joseph’s Park, Nenagh, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his father Michael, he will be sadly missed by his loving wife Mary, daughter Veronica, sons Paul, Billy, John, Ned and Keith; mother Kitty, brothers Michael and John, sisters Nora, Teresa, Peggy and Mary; grandchildren Kiefer, Kian, Jordan, Naomi, Saffron, Aimee, Charlie, Ethan and Brady; great-grandchildren Lily, Avery and Tyler; aunt Biddy, daughters-in-law Jodi, Carolyn, Helen, Tricia and Seini; nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

Funeral Mass took place at St Mary’s Church, Irishtown, Clonmel, on Sunday, with burial afterwards in St Patrick’s Cemetery.
