Toor Tidy Towns celebrate

There was more than a passing interest in the drawing of numbers in the national lottery for a very select number of members of a local community recently.

But in particular it was the wait for the bonus number drawn that was of the greatest interest to them on the particular chosen night.

And so it was that the number - ‘3’ - that gave members of Toor Tidy Towns committee a wonderful reason to celebrate as they joined the Ryan Family in celebrating their win in the novel local fundraiser.

The excitement stemmed from the fact that the Bonus ball selected in the Irish National Lotto that night was none other than 3, the lucky choice made by Evelyn Ryan, daughter of Donach and Noreen, and granddaughter of Denis and Peggy Ryan.

The festivities appropriately unfolded in the heart of Toor's village community at Peggy's Park, a cherished location that holds great significance.

This park was generously donated by Peggy Ryan, and has been transformed into a vibrant playground and picnic area for both locals and visitors to revel in.

Its serene atmosphere and scenic beauty have become a focal point for leisure and relaxation in the picturesque village in the shadow of the majestic Keeper Hill.

The principle of the draw was that 47 members of the local community had each purchased a ticket, with numbers sequence to represent the possibilities in the National Lottery Draw.

The focus was positioned on the ‘Bonus’ number and the holder of the ticket number to correspond with the National Lottery Bonus on the night was set to become the richer of the draw jackpot.

VALUABLE FUND

Meantime, Toor Tidy Village Committee was gaining some valuable fund to help to maintain the beauty of the little village, of which they are rightly very proud of its placing each year in the National Tidy Towns Contest.

The Toor Tidy Towns committee would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported their fundraiser. This includes not only the local businesses that lent their support, but also the tourists who took the time to explore Toor and individuals who have a personal connection to the area.

The committee wants to acknowledge the invaluable assistance and contributions of all those involved.

passionate volunteer

It is worth noting that the Toor Tidy Towns committee operates solely through the efforts of passionate volunteers. As a self-funded group, they come together to preserve, maintain, and enhance the village, allowing everyone to experience and appreciate the natural splendour and tranquility of the area. Their collective commitment and dedication plays a crucial role in the ongoing development and prosperity of Toor.

Overall, the celebration of the Ryan family's Lotto win served as a testament to the strong sense of community spirit and the shared vision of creating a vibrant and welcoming environment in Toor.

The Toor Tidy Towns committee remains steadfast in their mission to nurture and improve their village for the enjoyment of all who visit or call it home.

Beside the village is the noted birthplace of Dr Henry Kennedy, who became one of the leaders in agricultural development in the country during the early years of the last century.

It is accredited that without his foresight and leadership, during the earliest years of the Irish Co-Operative Movement, the multi-billion euro movement which remains an integral part of the rural economy would not have survived.

A plaque, erected by the Irish Kennedy Heritage Group and Toor Tidy Village Committee, to his memory and role in Irish farming development was unveiled in the village five years ago, on the Golden Jubilee anniversary of his death.
