Progress update on Tipp hospital
The Fianna Fáil TD for Tipperary, Jackie Cahill has stated that he is ‘very pleased’ with the ‘positive engagement’ between Government colleagues and the Minister for Older People, Mary Butler, in relation to St Patrick’s Hospital in Cashel.
The Fianna Fáil Minister met with Deputy Cahill, Cllr Roger Kennedy (Cathaoirleach, Tipperary County Council), Senator Garret Ahearn, and Cllr Declan Burgess today to discuss the plans for St Patrick’s Hospital in Cashel.
The Government TD said: “I am very pleased with the positive engagement we had today with Minister Mary Butler. I would like to thank Minister Butler for agreeing to meet with Government party colleagues today in relation to St Patrick’s Hospital in Cashel, and to provide an update on the HSE’s plans.
“Minister Butler provided a long list of delivery in the area of healthcare for Tipperary that this Government has achieved to date, and following today’s meeting, as well as this Government’s record of delivery in Tipperary, I am very confident for the future of healthcare in Cashel.”
Deputy Cahill continued by detailing some of the major healthcare developments delivered under this Government to date. He added: “We have seen the Jigsaw centre delivered in Thurles under Minister Butler as Minister for Mental Health. She has also provided a clear roadmap for the retention and future operation of the Dean Maxwell Community Nursing Home in Roscrea. In Thurles, we have seen the delivery of a brand-new, state-of-the-art Day Hospital on the grounds of the Hospital of the Assumption, through an investment of over €2.5million.
“Both Nenagh and Clonmel are seeing the construction of modern Community Nursing Homes for the towns and surrounding areas, with St Cronan’s in Nenagh and St Anthony’s in Clonmel progressing very well under the Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly.
“On top of all of this positive news, yesterday evening I was delighted to announce a massive €75 million investment in Tipperary University Hospital. Last July also saw the opening of the Regional Hub for Women’s Health in Nenagh General Hospital by the Health Minister. Last November, the then-Taoiseach Micheál Martin TD official opened the Thurles Primary Care Centre.
“Healthcare is one of the main issues facing this Government, and while progress is still needed in many areas, it is impossible to deny the major investment in and improvements made to healthcare in Tipperary under this Government.
“While unnecessary doubt has been sown by some for their own political gain in relation to St Patrick’s Hospital in Cashel, Minister Butler has given today’s delegation an assurance that it will be included in the HSE Capital Development Plan. This will secure the future of St Patrick’s Hospital in Cashel and the future of healthcare in the town.
“Much criticism is levelled at this Government on a daily basis by those in opposition who will only criticise, but it is clear that major delivery is happening in Tipperary, and this is being followed by millions upon millions of Euros of investment right across the county. I am very pleased with today’s meeting with Minister Butler and I am confident that healthcare in Cashel will be secured for generations to come."
