Roscrea sergeant’s long cycle

A COFFEE Morning in aid of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland will be held in the Courthouse, Roscrea, on Wednesday, May 10, at 10.30am in support of a local garda sergeant, who is in training to take on a cycle of 236 kilometres for the charity.

This coffee morning is being organised by Sergeant Ciarán Ó Ráighne, a garda stationed in Roscrea, in conjunction with An Garda Síochána and Age Friendly Roscrea, who are based in the courthouse building.

On August 26 Ciarán will complete a one-day solo 236km cycle from Indreabhán, County Galway to Dingle, County Kerry in order to raise funds for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland. This cycle is called ‘The Making Memories Cycle’ and Ciarán is looking for all the support he can get for his endavour.

The reason Ciarán chose the particular cycle route is that he is a native for the starting point of the cycle in Indreabhán and his mother Máire is from Ventry near the end point of the cycle in Dingle.

“This is a charity that is close to my heart and one that I hope to raise some badly needed money for,” says Ciarán. He added: “I would really appreciate any donation that you can give, no matter how small, and once you donate your money it will go directly to the charity and will immediately be put to good use.” Ciaran has to date raised over €6,500 of his target of €10,000.
