DIVISION 1

TOOMEVARA 1-20 DROM & INCH 1-16

Kevin McCarthy bagged eleven points as Toomevara made it two wins out of two when they defeated Drom & Inch in their refixed round one game in Toomevara on Saturday evening.

Toomevara played against the breeze in the first half and following a slow start, it was a David Nolan goal that helped them take the lead. Kevin McCarthy six points, three coming from play, while Johnny Ryan was Drom’s top man with five points, two from play, as his side trailed at half time, 1-9 to 0-10.

Drom’s possession game troubled Toome somewhat in the third quarter but a number of turnovers and long range scores from McCarthy plus Robbie Quirke and Jack Delaney meant they led were 1-16 to 0-12 in front by the 43rd minute.

However, Johnny Ryan scored a goal for Drom, but Toome kept the Mid men at arm’s length. Toomevara face near neighbours Kilruane MacDonaghs this weekend while Drom & Inch will take on Nenagh Eire Og.

DIVISION 3

Moyne Templetuohy 1-17 Borrisokane 1-15

Thanks to their two-point win over Borrisokane in Templetuohy last Wednesday night, Moyne-Templetuohy have moved into third place behind Newport and have a chance of making the semi-finals if they continue to win their remaining games.

A Ben Ryan goal after just four minutes helped pave the way for victory. The winners led 1-12 to 0-8 at half time. Both Diarmuid Fogarty and Jack Taylor were in good form as the duo scored 0-12 of the winner’s total.

Newport 2-14 Moneygall 2-11

Newport came from behind to secure a three-point win over Moneygall at Lacken Park last Sunday.

The home side played with a very strong breeze in the first half but trailed 1-7 to 2-3 at the turnover. Oran Connors had scored the two Newport goals and when the sides changed ends it was Newport who had the majority of play and had three points to spare at the end.

The victory gives the Mulcaire side full points out of a possible four as they trail Silvermines who have a plus thirteen-point difference. Newport face Skeheenarinky next time out, while Moneygall, who remain pointless alongside Borrisokane at the bottom of the table, take on Moyne-Templetuohy next weekend.

DIVISION 4

The game between Kiladangan and Moyle Rovers was postponed due to a bereavement in the Moyle Rovers club.

FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION 1

Ballina 0-10 Ardfinnan 0-10

Ballina continued their unbeaten start to Division 1 of the County Football League after sharing the spoils with Ardfinnan in Ballina on Sunday.

After beating Moyle Rovers in the opening round, Ballina were keen to take down another traditional footballing stronghold, particularly with the sides being drawn in the game group for the senior championship in the autumn.

Ballina led 0-8 to 0-4 at half time having played with a strong wind but the South men battled back and nudged in front going into the closing stages before Ballina managed an equaliser to keen their unbeaten start intact.

Ballina have a bye in round 3 before travelling to Golden Kilfeacle in round 4.
