Munster rugby star visits Newport College

On Monday, January 16, Newport College welcomed a special guest to the campus, Ireland and Munster Rugby player Craig Casey. The school community was excited to have the opportunity to meet and hear from such a successful sports person. Also joining us on the day were local primary school pupils from Newport Boys National School who won the recent Primary School Blitz hosted by Newport RFC and Newport College.

The visit began with a chat with Principal Donal Madden, during which Casey shared insights on his journey in rugby, from his early years playing in school to his current position as a professional player. He discussed what motivates him and keeps him focused, as well as answered a wide range of questions from the students on topics such as a typical day in the life of a professional rugby player, his diet and nutrition, and specific games from playing against the All Blacks and experiencing the HAKA. He talked about his school days and how he managed studying for his Leaving Cert as well as training with the Munster Academy.

The visit provided a valuable learning experience for everyone in attendance. Casey's insights on dedication, hard work, and perseverance inspired the students to pursue their own goals and dreams. After the chat, the students had the opportunity to take photos with Casey and further ask questions.

It was a wonderful day for Newport College allowing them to celebrate all things rugby with Craig Casey, who is not only a successful athlete but also an inspiration to the students. The school community is grateful for the opportunity to host such a remarkable person and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
