Institute team reaches Munster Snooker Final

There was a great performance from the Nenagh Institute ‘B’ team last weekend to make the final of the championship section in the Munster Club Snooker Championships in Killarney.

The club had high hopes for this team of Andy McCloskey, Damien Shoer, Dave Garrett, Noel Gleeson, and Martin Kelly to do well and they fulfilled expectations. It didn't go their way in the final. However, they have qualified for the All Ireland Championships next weekend, back in Killarney, and would hope to build on their good run.

The ‘A’ team of Paudie Kelly, Brendan O’Donoghue, Tony Seymour, Mark Walsh, Mark Gleeson, and Patsy Farrell were defending champions, going for a three-in-a-row of provincial times, performed well in the premier division, by getting through their group and qualifying for the quarter finals to play Norris' from Waterford. They came through this match 3-2 to face the Crucible ‘A’ from Cork in the semi-finals. As like last year’s final, it was a close match that went way of the Crucible this time around. However, the team also qualified for the All Ireland’s next weekend.

Brendan O’Donoghue also won the Pauline Greer Memorial Singles competition held at the venue for the third time in a row the night before the Club championship.

The ‘C’ and ‘D’ teams also performed well. The ‘C’ team of Ollie Clear, Ger Lovett, Tom Ford, Josh Burke, and Ray Lynch had to play the ‘B’ team in a playoff for quarterfinal spot but the ‘B’s came through in the end.

The ‘D’ team of Adam O’Brien, Billy Kelly, Terrence Doyle, Jake Mc Mahon, and David Lynch narrowly missed out on qualification but there was great performances from young Adam O’Brien on his debut at the event. Adam is with our youth academy and the future looks bright.
