Oíche Ceol in Ballycommon

Ballycommon CCÉ will hold their first Oíche Ceol of 2023 this Friday, January 27, in the Muintir na Tíre Hall, Ballycommon, at 8pm. All are welcome. Cead isteach, €5 with musicians free. Usually a great session; you can be sure this will be no different!

First hour or so aimed at our junior members. A great new bunch have enrolled in our classes, including singers, this will be an opportunity for them to perform and join in with other musicians. At the halfway point there will be a cupán tae, a bun and of course our raffle, which will be followed by the senior session with our more advanced musicians. Ideal for all members as a chance to play informally and to get to know each other. The night is aimed at giving everyone a chance to participate at their level. A great night’s entertainment for everyone, and everyone is encouraged to participate. All musicians and listeners welcome! Probably have a set or two for variety as well!

As our members will know and many are aware Ballycommon Branch is hosting this year’s Comhaltas County Fleadh. The fleadh will be run over the weekend of May 12-14. The initial meeting has been held and the Fleadh Committee and subcommittees formed. The committee will be seeking volunteers and assistance as we progress towards the event. There will be many local events in the run up to the fleadh. First up will be a céilí in March and in April the branch will hold a fundraising concert to help defray the costs of the weekend. Anyone interested in assisting with the fleadh or indeed would like to know more please feel free to come along on Friday when there will be an update on progress and plans.

Finally, congratulations to everyone who participated in Ceol on Gheimhridh in Brú Ború at the weekend. Everyone performed very well and did the branch proud. Particular congratulations to Leah Carey, who qualified for the Munster finals.
