Fabulous 5 from Fethard lead the way in Tipp LGFA All-Stars

County Senior champions Fethard led the way in the CK Streaming/Tipperary LGFA All-Stars Awards were announced at a Gala Banquet in Cahir House Hotel on Saturday.

The awards which were a first of a kind in the country saw a shortlist of 45 whittled down to 15 by a public vote from club players, officials and club officers over the last two months.

Fethard who made history when winning their first senior title defeating Brian Borus in dramatic circumstances received five awards with Sinead Delahunty, Carrie Davey, Lucy Spillane, Niamh Hayes and Kate Davey picking up awards.

Beaten finalists Brian Borus received a single award with Trisha Hickey being the sole recipient, while beaten County semi-finalists and League finalists Moyle Rovers have Orla Burke, Michelle Cronin and Kirsty Crotty-Ryan picking up awards.

Niamh Connolly of Junior B’ champions Loughmore-Castleiney had the honour of being the first recipient of an All-Star Award when named in goal and is joined on the team by clubmate Anne Eviston.

Junior A’ champions Moycarkey-Borris have their inspirational captain Cathriona Walsh named at centre-forward while beaten finalists Moyne-Templetuohy who also lost the league final are rewarded for their campaign with three awards with Niamh Dunne, Ciara Gorman and Niamh Ryan having the honour of picking up the gongs for the Mid Tipperary club.

Brian Borus Alannah English picked up the inaugural Goal of the Year Award for her dramatic last minute winner against Aherlow in the County Senior semi-final.

Loughmore-Castleiney where celebrating again when Niamh Treacy picked up Junior Player of the Year award, while Casey Hennessy of Boherlahan-Dualla picked up the Intermediate Award and Fethard’s Kate Davey scorer of the dramatic winning point in the County Final with the last kick of the game finished off a superb personal year for herself by picking up the Senior Footballer of the Year Award.

Tipperary LGFA Chairman Michael Towey said: “Congratulations to all the footballers who have been selected on the CK Streaming All-Stars team.

“The awardees hold a prestigious place in Tipperary LGFA history given that they are the inaugural winners of the awards. These players stand out as the foremost performers that we were fortunate to have for our enjoyment on the playing fields in2022.”

CK Streaming CEO Tomas Matthews in congratulating the players selected said: “2022 will live long in the memory from big leads being reeled in to numerous dramatic last minute winners, extra-time finales and shoot outs deciding the destination of competitions.

“I want to compliment everyone involved in a superb year of football.
