Under 21 'B' Hurling Championship: The final games in the group stages of the North Under 21 'B' Hurling championship took place last Sunday.
In Group 2, Kilruane MacDonaghs and Silvermines played out a 0-15 to 2-9 draw in Cloughjordan with this result doing enough to secure MacDonaghs a spot in the knockout stages after finishing second on two points, ahead of Silvermines who finished third on one point. Lorrha Rovers finish top of the group with three points.
Kilruane had a strong wind to their advantage in the first half and enjoyed a 0-10 to 0-4 lead at the break and the needed every bit of this lead when they were reduced to fourteen men at the start of the second half. Silvermines scored two goals from Conor McKelvey to level the game but a draw wasn’t enough for them to progress to the knockout stages. Eoin Carroll played a big role for Kilruane, scoring eight points (seven from placed balls).
In Group 3, Burgess secured top spot in the group after a 1-10 to 1-5 win away to Portroe last Sunday.
Only a point separated the sides at half time with Burgess 0-4 to 0-3 up with both sides missing a number of scoring opportunities and some great saves in both keepers.
A one-handed strike on a mid-air ball by Kieran Grace hit the back of the Portroe net to put Burgess up seven minutes into the second half, 1-7 to 0-4. Frees from Eoin Grace and Michael Ryan saw Burgess extend their lead by 1-9 to 0-3 before Port scored a point from a placed ball. Another great point came from Eoin Grace before a late James Ferris goal from Portroe in the 61st minute to give the final score of 1-10 to 1-5.
The draw for the knockout stages took place on Monday evening. The quarter finals see Lorrha Rovers hosting Ballinahinch/Templederry this Saturday at 2.00pm in Lorrha, whilst Newport travel Kilruane MacDonaghs on Sunday in Cloughjordan at 12.30pm.
Both Burgess and Moneygall/Clonakenny await in the semi-finals which are due to take place on the weekend of December 17th/18th and the Final on St. Stephen’s Day.
County Championship: Well done to Kilruane MacDonaghs who claimed the County Junior 'B' Football title last Sunday in Templederry after a 1-11 to 0-10 win over Boherlahan-Dualla.
Munster Championship: Hard luck to Roscrea who lost to Monaleen of Limerick last Sunday on a 0-18 to 1-22 scoreline in the Munster Intermediate Hurling Final in Páirc Uí Rinn.
