Moneygall going for junior camogie glory

CAMOGIE: FBD Insurance County Junior ‘A’ Final Preview

MONEYGALL v BRIAN BORUS

Camogie grounds, the Ragg

Sunday 16th October

Throw-in @ 3.30pm

Referee: Kieran Slattery

Moneygall will be aiming to go a step further than last year when they take on Brian Borus in the County Junior ‘A’ Camogie Championship final on Sunday.

Both sides are coming into the match with serious momentum having remained unbeaten so far in the championship, each club having topped their groups impressively before wins in their semi-finals with Moneygall defeating Kiladangan and Brian Borus defeating St Rita’s Fethard.

Moneygall welcomed back experience players Julie Kelly and Brid Ryan into the fold this year and their leadership alone has added to the team. The strength of their panel was evident with key players missing at different stages due to injury.

Caitlyn Treacy has been really impressive from frees and play while captain Niamh Larkin has been a handful for every opposition at full forward with some clinical finishing all year. Mairead Teehan is finding form again after an injury layoff while Tipperary senior player Mary Ryan has been very good all year.

A dual club, many of the Brian Borus players would have suffered a heart-breaking defeat to Fethard in the senior ladies football final two weeks ago. They should huge character to regroup get focussed and put in a massive display of workrate and determination to get over St Rita’s in the camogie semi-final in awful weather conditions on Sunday.

Eimear Myles and Helena Walsh are their joint captains and key players. Elsewhere, Alison O’Mahony and Mary Barrett were on the Tipperary junior panel this year and big games will be expected of them in Sunday’s final. Full forward Kacey Meehan is a constant threat at the edge of the square despite operating in goals this year for the county minor team while centre back Shauna Maher leads the defence.

An exciting final awaits with a large crowd expected in the County Camogie Grounds on Sunday.
