Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis to discuss United Ireland resolution

Fianna Fáil MEP Billy Kelleher has welcomed the inclusion of his resolution on a United Ireland into this week’s Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis clár.

Speaking ahead of the Ard Fheis in Dublin, Kelleher said: “Fundamentally, my resolution, tabled by a number of party units, seeks to unequivocally recommit our party to the cause of a shared, United Ireland through peaceful and democratic means.

“Members and supporters of our party want to see the party engage in a proactive and methodical way on this issue. Rhetoric and idealism, while important in politics, will not and cannot deliver Irish Unity.

“Tough and hard questions will be posed to those of us seeking a new constitutional settlement on this island. Flag waving and song singing will not be enough to convince the middle ground of the benefits that can come from reunification.

“Crucially, my resolution commits the party to drafting and publishing its own White Paper on Unity - something that has been lacking in recent years.

“We must work with our friends and allies in the SDLP and reach out to those that remain to be convinced on this topic.

“I’m looking forward to debating this important topic and securing the support of Fianna Fáil delegates at the Ard Fheis."
