FBD Insurance County Championships

Last weekend was a busy one on the football front with the staging of the quarter finals of the senior and intermediate championships as well as in the Tom Cusack Cup. See match report and round-up for senior football.

In the Intermediate Football quarter finals, Golden-Kilfeacle held out for a 0-10 to 1-06 win over a very young Clonmel Commercials side. On Saturday, Grangemockler/Ballyneale had ten points to spare as they overcame Fethard 1-18 to 1-8 in Ardfinnan while Ballina proved too strong for Galtee Rovers 2-12 to 0-9. On Sunday in Littleton, Mullinahone booked their place in the next round with a very one sided 5-15 to 1-5 win over Loughmore/Castleiney’s second team.

In the quarter finals of the Tom Cusack Cup, it took extra time to separate West neighbours Aherlow and Eire Óg Annacarty, with the Annacarty men having the slimmest of advantages in the end, 2-13 to 2-12. In Rockwell Rovers overcame Ballyporeen 2-16 to 0-14, Killenaule defeated Moycarkey/Borris 3-16 to 0-2 and Drom & Inch secured their senior status for 2023 with a 0-11 to 0-10 win over Cahir in Boherlahan.

As a result of these games Aherlow and Cahir will meet in the relegation final, while Rockwell Rovers, Killenaule, Drom & Inch and Eire Og Annacarty meet in the Tom Cusack Cup semi-finals.

Last weekend also saw the staging of the Intermediate Hurling Preliminary Quarter Final between Knockavilla-Donaskeigh Kickhams and Cappawhite on Sunday in Clonoulty and in another belter of a game it was the Dundrum side who claimed the victory and the bragging rights with a 3-17 to 1-22 win.

In the County U19 ‘B’ hurling championship semi-final Borris-Ileigh defeated St Patricks 1-14 to 2-8 and book their place in the final.

Next weekend we have games in the senior, premier intermediate, intermediate and junior hurling championships. See page 78 for match previews

All four senior hurling quarter finals will also be available to watch at home, with the first game on Saturday between Drom & Inch v Loughmore/Castleiney being televised live by RTE at 4.00pm, while the remaining games will be streamed live by Tipp GAA TV. See GAA Scoreboard for all fixtures.

Sport for All Funding

The GAA have reported a phenomenal response to the Sport for All Disability Supports Club Fund for 2022 saw over 450 clubs send in applications from the GAA for submission to Sport Ireland.

As part of 2022 NGB Dormant Accounts Fund, Sport Ireland will provide a €2,000,000 ‘Sport for All’ Disability Supports Club Fund with a minimum application amount of €1,000 and maximum application amount of €5,000 per club on this funding scheme.

The next step in the applications process is

· Sport Ireland will revert to each NGB with an amount allocation once a review of all the applications and that all clubs are found compliant with the Funding requirements.

· The club must ensure that appropriate arrangements are in place for the overall governance and management (including financial management) of the Club receiving the support. It is hugely importance for your club to retain all receipts and documentation in relation to grant investment expenditure for inspection by Sport Ireland.

· Given the nature of the scheme, any clubs in receipt of funding must have a robust system in place in relation to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable people.

· The GAA will then review each club application for funding allocation. When considering the provision of funding to Clubs, the GAA will consider the following:

. Technical merits of the Clubs application (quality, detail, sustainability etc.)

. Size and strategic importance of the Club within the sport (membership numbers, area, facility sharing, existing diversity of activity & membership)

. Existing Club engagement with the NGB

. Level, scope, and track record of programme delivery by the Club

. Existing Governance, Financial and Safeguarding model within the Club

It is anticipated that an announcement of funding allocations will be made by December. Applying does not guarantee that funding will be approved.
