Unusual callout for the Coast Guard

Killaloe Coast Guard had a rather unusual callout on Monday, August 22, when it was tasked to the Two-Mile-Gate area where a member of the public had observed a cygnet in the water with a fishing line wrapped around its neck.

The unit’s boat crews carry out weekly training every Monday and its D-class crew carried out a search for the cygnet in trouble. Having located the cygnet, they succeeded in catching it and removing the fishing line, which was tightly wrapped around its neck.

The cygnet was then released safe and well at the Two-Mile-Gate.
