Victoria Cross display in Lorrha this Saturday

All are welcome to Lorrha this Saturday, August 13, for a major event for the local community, the long-awaited display of Martin O'Meara's Victoria Cross.

Preparations have been underway in earnest for this once-off opportunity for people to come along and view O'Meara's VC in his native village before it is returned to Australia. It is advisable not to miss this unique occasion.

There will be a wreath-laying ceremony at the Martin O’Meara monument in the village at 10am followed by an Ecumenical Service in the grounds of St Ruadhán’s Church/Dominican Abbey. The VC will then go on display for the remainder of the day in the church.

The local committee organising this event would like to thank everyone who has supported their fundraising efforts to date. Collection buckets remain available at the SCEAL shop, Friars Tavern, Pat Hough’s, Kelly’s of Rathcabbin, the Ferry Inn and Mulrooney’s Ferry Service Station. These are for anyone who would like to make a contribution to the homecoming. The committee also has an online GoFundMe page - ‘Homecoming of Martin O'Meara's VC’ - and Facebook page of the same name. Information is also available at www.lorrhadorrha.ie. Your support is much appreciated.
