CCTV for Roscrea and Borrisokane

A community CCTV scheme for Roscrea was formally proposed at the July meeting of Tipperary Joint Policing Committee.

The meeting heard that an "iCloud system" for the town has been agreed on, and that this would get around issues of planning and GDPR as there would be no need to have equipment housed in the library or garda station. Proposing adoption of this system, Cllr Noel Coonan did not want to delay the CCTV plan for Roscrea any further.

Director of Services with Tipperary Co Council Pat Slattery said ongoing maintenance of the system may present a difficulty. The council does not have a central budget for CCTV and funding may have to come through the municipal district; this should be agreed before sign-off, Mr Slattery advised.

Cllr Ger Darcy sought an update on the CCTV scheme planned for Borrisokane, which had been submitted to the Garda Commissioner for approval. Chief Superintendent Derek Smart said he would follow up on the matter.
