Garda warning over jet skis

Local gardaí have warned that they have the power of arrest and can seize jet skis from anyone who operates them in an irresponsible manner.

Issues continue to arise on the Shannon and Lough Derg, particularly in the vicinity of Killaloe, Ballina and the Two-Mile-Gate, with the gardaí and the Killaloe Coast Guard regularly receiving complaints from members of the public. The jet skis are being operated at excessive speeds - up to 60km an hour near Killaloe Bridge where the speed limit is about 5km per hour. Reports have also been received of operators doing ‘dough-nuts’.

The gardaí ask people using the lake to be respectful of others, obey the relevant speed limits, be safe and never take risks on the water.
