Nenagh Relay gold highlights Successful National Championships

The National Senior Track & Field Championships were held last weekend at Morton Stadium, Dublin in very blustery conditions. There was good representation from Tipperary clubs and athletes, spearheaded by the gold medals won by the Nenagh Olympic men’s 4x400m relay team of Alex Ryan, Padraic Hassett, Tom McCutcheon, and Jack Hickey.

Meanwhile Moycarkey/Coolcroo’s Sean Mockler also won double gold in the Hammer and Weight for Distance.

There was also team gold for the Nenagh Olympic AC women’s high jumpers of Ava Rochford, Ellen O’Dwyer and Grace Brennan while the clubs Sean Carolan and Darragh Miniter won the senior pairs discus.

Newport AC’s Sharlene Mawdsley was forced to miss the 400m due to illness.

Womens’ 100m

Heat 3: 3rd – Katie Bergin (Moyne AC) 12.70 & qualified for the semi-final. In the semi-final, Katie Bergin was placed 8th in 12.78.

Mens’ 100m

Heat 3: 6th – Alex Ryan (Nenagh Olympic AC) – 12.40.

Heat 4: 7th – Liam Meade (Templemore AC) – 12.18.

Heat 6: 4th – Padraic Hassett (Nenagh Olympic AC) – 11.78.

Womens’ 200m

Heat 1: 3rd – Katie Bergin (Moyne AC) – 25.52 & qualified for the final.

Heat 2: 6th – Bernadette Spillane (Moyne AC) – 30.63.

In the final, Katie Bergin finish 7th with 26.12.

Heat 4: 4th - Jack Hickey (Nenagh Olympic AC) – 23.54; Alex Ryan (Nenagh Olympic AC) – 24.14; 6th – Liam Meade (Templemore AC) – 24.32.

Heat 6: 3rd – Padraic Hassett (Nenagh Olympic AC) – 22.61 & qualified for the final.

Padraic Hassett finished 6th in the final with a time of 22.89.

Heat 2: 4th – Tom McCutcheon (Nenagh Olympic AC) – 52.29.

Heat 3: 3rd – David Ryan (Moycarkey/Coolcroo AC) – 48.81.
