Munster Oaks success for Twomey

Andy Slattery and his son Andrew shared a 50/1 winner at Gowran Park on Bank Holiday Monday where Heather Bear scored a comfortable success in the second of the day’s handicaps over the extended nine furlongs.

In the colours of Dr Ronan Tynan, the three-year-old was running in her first handicap and she came through late on to win by a length and a half from the Gavin Cromwell-trained 33/1 shot Theonewedreamof.

Timmy Hyde and his grandson Harry Swan combined for the first winner of the day at Listowel on Monday week last where Mind Your Money landed the mares’ maiden hurdle.

Having her first run for the trainer, the six-year-old put her jumping experience to good use as she held off the James Barrett-trained Katherine by three-parts of a length.

Denis Hogan landed the maiden hurdle with the YerManMilan Syndicate-owned Desert Friend which was ridden by in-form Donagh Meyler.

The 10/1 chance led turning into the straight and eased clear between the final two flights to win by eight lengths from the Richard Foley-trained joint-favourite Moulane West.

Philip Fenton rounded off Wexford’s Wednesday card when taking the handicap chase with the Mikey Hamill-ridden Secret Cargo.

The 16/1 chance, owned by the Grey Stays Syndicate, was left in the lead, and then hampered at the final fence but he picked up well when challenged by the Michael Butler-trained Steps Match to score by a neck.

Donnacha O'Brien and Gavin Ryan were the opening winners at Cork on Wednesday where Badb, owned and bred by the trainer’s mother Annmarie, took the six-furlong fillies’ maiden for two-year-olds.

A strong 7/2 chance, she quickened clear in good style early inside the final furlong to beat the Johnny Murtagh-trained favourite Silmaniya by three and a half lengths.

A bigger winner for a Tipperary trainer came in the shape of the much-improved Rosscarbery, trained by Paddy Twomey, which got the better of the Ger Lyons-trained Yaxeni to take the Group 3 Munster Oaks Stakes. Billy Lee carried the colours of Robert Moran on the four-year-old which made it four wins in a row when scoring by a neck.

John Ryan took the opening opportunity maiden hurdle at Clonmel on Friday where Barbaha Queen ran out a comfortable winner in the trainer’s own colours.

A second jumping winner for conditional rider John Shinnick, the 17/2 chance led early in the straight and battled well to see off the Henry de Bromhead-trained favourite Itwasfate by a neck.

Joseph O'Brien sent out two winning favourites at Fairyhouse on Friday with Declan McDonogh and Shane Crosse on the mark for the Piltown trainer.

McDonogh took the opening auction series maiden on the ES Racing-owned favourite Apache Outlaw before Crosse partnered Point King to a far more comfortable success in the 12-furlong median auction maiden where the Lloyd Williams Syndicate-owned three-year-old scored by four and a quarter lengths from Jim Bolger’s Dancila.

Joey Sheridan rounded off a double for Curragh trainer Ken Condon when partnering the Charlie Bit Me Syndicate-owned Moss Tucker to success in the six-furlong handicap for older horses. The 5/1 chance made all the running to beat Charles O'Brien’s Big Gossey by a neck.

Billy Lee had given Condon an earlier winner in the three-year-old handicap over the same distance with the Treadstone Bloodstock-owned Areille beating Sheridan’s Jupiter Express by half a length to give the stable a 1-2 in the race.

The Crosse brothers fought out the finish to the handicap over the extended six-furlong trip at Limerick on Saturday and it was Nathan who prevailed on the Willie McCreery-trained Cnodian.

A 15/2 shot in the colours of her breeder Noeleen O’Toole, the four-year-old had half a length to spare over older brother Shane on the Richard O'Brien-trained Cleveleys.

The father and son team of Andy and Andrew Slattery won the second of the 11-furlong handicaps with the Men Of Forty-Eight Syndicate-owned Aingeal Dorcha. The four-year-old led inside the final furlong to beat Jim Bolger’s I Have A Voice by a length.

Denis Hogan’s Church Mountain made all the running under Cork apprentice Daniel King to take the eight-furlong handicap in good style. Clear early in the straight, the 7/1 shot was never threatened as he came home a two and a quarter-length winner in the colours of Joseph Kelly.

There was plenty of Tipperary success at Gowran Park on Sunday where Shane Crosse was a winner again as Zoinnocent gave trainer Joseph O'Brien the first leg of a treble in the opening seven-furlong maiden. The 15/8 chance beat the Donnacha O'Brien-trained La Dolce Vita by a comfortable length and three-parts in the colours of Eric Long.

Jake Coen completed the trainer’s treble when partnering even money favourite Gear Up to win concluding the conditions’ race over the extended nine furlongs. The Teme Valley Racing-owned four-year-old ran out another ready winner, beating the Dermot Weld-trained Tazaral by a length and three-parts.

The Dylan Browne McMonagle-ridden Night Of Romance was O'Brien’s other winner on the card in the fillies’ handicap.

Silken Leader continues to improve and the Joe Murphy-trained three-year-old landed the seven-furlong handicap in fine style under Gary Carroll. In the colours of Tom Egan, the strong favourite led early in the straight to beat the Joe Murray-trained Hot Sunset by an easy three and three-parts of a length.
