Daffodil Day team say thanks
Almost €30,000 raised for Cancer Society
The Nenagh & Borrisokane Daffodil Day committees would like to thank the people of Nenagh, Toomevara, Borrisokane and surrounding district for their amazing generosity on Daffodil Day.
A total of €24,501 was raised in Nenagh and €5,471 in Borrisokane. The support for the cause was extraordinary and the lovely sunny day brought people out into the streets. We would like to thank our volunteers, who remain so loyal and turn up each year, hail rain or snow.
We had a number of new table leaders this year, who were professional from the outset. Many of us had to call on friends at the last minute to step in and cover due to Covid. We had incredible support from the shopkeepers, who allowed us to collect outside their premises and provided refreshments. We had new people joining in to collect and count donations along with experienced counters, which was great.
We would like to thank photographer Odhran Ducie, who is so professional and patient taking our photos and making us look wonderful in Lulu’s daffodil hats. Tommy and Ann Elizabeth Riggs-Miller kindly allowed us to pick daffodils along with four lovely students from Transition Year, St Mary's Secondary School.
We would also like to thank our knitters, who knit beautiful daffodils to sell. We would like to thank Garry Cotter and the Nenagh Guardian, who are always so helpful in publishing our promotional photos and articles.
It’s a real community effort. We were honoured to have Nicola McMahon from the Irish Cancer Society for the presentation of the cheques, who congratulated us on the fantastic amount raised in the locality. Nicola spoke about the impact of the generous donations, on the support which the Irish Cancer Society can give to people diagnosed with cancer and their families. Míle buíochas to each and everyone who contributed to making Daffodil Day a success.
