Something for everyone!

Silver Arch Family Resource Centre has always had a strong tradition of providing community-based supports to those who live in North Tipperary, aiming to support a nurturing and inclusive community where we all live and grow.

As part of our work, we are continuously developing and delivering opportunities to all who live in our community to explore new ways of taking care of their physical, mental and social health, be it through food, exercise or developing new social outlets. We are delighted to be able to offer this range of programmes through our partnerships with the HSE, Tipperary County Council and Tipperary Sports Partnership and with help from volunteers.

In recent times, we have developed a broad range of health and wellbeing programmes. For food lovers and people interested in nutrition, Healthy Food Made Easy is a six-week programme where we learn about food and nutrition in a fun and interactive way, and get to cook and taste healthy recipes along with picking up clever cooking tips too.

For those looking for ways to incorporate more exercise into their daily habits, throughout the year we run Easy Exercise Programmes and the Green Exercise Programme. Led by a qualified fitness instructor, all these are aimed to get people moving a little more, improving and maintaining mobility, fitness, strength and balance while meeting friends and new people in a safe way.

For people wanting to use their hands more, we have recently started Sow and Grow, a lovely set of weekly workshops ideal for beginners to learn how to sow seeds, plants and flowers. We have people of all ages participating, who will hopefully enjoy the fruits of our labours by eating what we grow at the end of the programme in the Nenagh Community Garden. Later in the year we will also be starting ‘Sewing Crafts’, ideal for people wanting to learn how to stitch and sew and learn about materials and textiles with a brilliant instructor.

All the above programmes are for people of every age, but we do have specific programmes also for the older adults in our community. Pilates for Older Adults was a huge success with the hope of running this again in the future. We regularly run Health & Wellbeing for Older Adults, a programme that looks at practical ways of incorporating good habits to help us age well. For the month of May, Nenagh Community Garden is the location of our newest programme – Try Tai Chi for Older Adults. Over four weeks, you can learn to combine deep breathing and relaxation with slow, continuous movements that are gentle on the joints and muscles.

So, you can see, there is practically something for everyone! If you are interested in any of these programmes or would like to put your name down to join, please contact Silver Arch Family Resource Centre at 067-31800 or visit us on social media or via our website www.silverarchfrc.ie.
