Munster Under 16 ‘A’ Final: Tipperary 3-6 Cork 2-18

Tipperary took on Cork in the Munster U16 ‘A’ final on Friday in Kilmallock.

Cork started at a ferocious pace and quickly raced into a commanding lead. Early points from Emer Dwan kept Tipperary in touch along with a well-taken Ciara O’Hora goal. Cork, however, gained control again to open up a massive 2-13 to 1-3 half-time lead. Danielle Ryan’s point was Tipperary’s sole score over a twenty-minute period. Hannah Butler broke through well, but the advancing Cork keeper made a brave save. Cork’s Kate Fennessy, Amy Sheppard and Ava Fitzgerald were scoring freely from long range and full forward Louise O’Neill caught a high ball and finished to the net.

In the second half, Sarah Corcoran was superb at centre back thwarting many Cork attacks. Emer Dwan and Sarah Corcoran scored a point from play and a 45. Ava Bevans was introduced as a sub and quickly contributed 1-1. Ali O’Kelly, also a sub got Tipperary’s third goal. Eabha Dolan also made a crucial block preventing a Cork goal. Senior League Semi-Finals

Drom & Inch 5-24 Nenagh Eire Og 1-2

It was a very one-sided affair in the Ragg on Saturday as Drom & Inch blitzed an understrength and very young Nenagh Eire Og outfit to march into the league final.

The county champions dominated from the outset with Mary Bourke excellent in attack and together with Anne Eviston and Antoinette Kennedy the points started to fire over. Two first-half goals from Mary Bourke and Anne Eviston increased Drom’s lead with the Nenagh defence having no answer. A brilliantly-taken point from Eabha O’Brien was the highlight of the half for Nenagh who trailed the home side 2-16 to 0-1 at the break.

Credit to the young Nenagh side they fought until the final whistle despite the Drom’s dominance. Their hard work paid off with a goal from Ciara Morris. They were unlucky not to have a second goal, but Drom keeper Ciara Dempsey was on hand to save a Nenagh penalty.

Eire Og Annacarty 0-16 Silvermines 1-8

In a keenly contested opening half, Annacarty led Silvermines 0-6 to 0-4 at half time on Saturday in the Senior League semi-final in Annacarty. The Silvermines scores coming from Eimear Murphy, Sarah Madden, and Rebecca Forde. Both sides exchanged further points at the start of the second half before a Joanne O’Brien goal on the 40th minute put Silvermines into the lead 1-7 to 0-9.

The goal seemed to spring Annacarty into life and they responded brilliantly with four unanswered points to swing the lead back in their favour. In the final quarter, Silvermines struggled to break down the Annacarty defence and could only muster a further point. Both sides produced a very tough physical game but Annacarty’s greater scoring threat and ability up front ensured they ran out five-point winners. Leah Heffernan produced a brilliant second half performance at full forward with some lovely points.

For Silvermines, Aisling Carey was excellent in goals denying Annacarty a green flag on a number of occasions. Maria Moroney and Sarah Madden were also very good.

For Annacarty Orla O’Brien was excellent in midfield while Ciannait Walsh and Orla Walsh were also standout performers while Siobhan O’Neill was excellent on the frees.

Intermediate League Semi-Finals

Boherlahan-Dualla 2-8 Kilruane MacDonaghs 1-7

Played in Kilcommon on Saturday, Kilruane started the better and led 0-2 to 0-1 after five minutes. Boherlahan were to score the next three points with Emma Horgan accurate from frees. Clodagh Horgan finished a great passing movement to put Boherlahan 1-5 to 0-3 clear after twenty minutes and maintained this five-point lead at half time.

An Amy Quinlisk free to the net followed by a Lisa Cahill point put just two points in it after forty minutes but another Boherlahan goal two minutes later by Leah Baskin gave Boherlahan the cushion they were not to relinquish. Amy Quinlisk had scored a hat-trick of goals v Boherlahan in their group game, so Boherlahan marked her tightly in this fixture. Shauna Heffernan and Lisa Cahill were very busy for Kilruane with Sarah Delaney winning a lot of 50/50 ball for Boherlahan in the centre forward area. Lauren Horgan made an important late save as Kilruane pressed late on. Ali O’Kelly narrowed the gap with a point. Boherlahan’s passing out of defence and up front when running at Kilruane was very effective.

Newport/Ballinahinch 5-12 Toomevara 5-4

Newport/Ballinahinch progressed to the Intermediate league final after an eight-point victory over Toomevara. Amazingly both sides raised five green flags each throughout the hour. Toomevara goals came from Mary Flaherty and two each from Katie Ryan and Laoise Cummins.

It took Portroe until the 22nd minute to register their first point from play from Yasmin Madden. This was followed by two pointed frees by Tishy O’Halloran leaving the half time score Moycarkey Borris 1-9 Portroe 0-3.

With a couple of positional changes in the second half Portroe’s forward line were gaining more possession. However, Moycarkey’s midfield and half forward line were still causing a lot of problems. Emma O’Sullivan was excellent throughout finishing with five points while Catriona Walsh, Clodagh Fallon and Rachel Ralph also got their names on the scoresheet.
