MATCH DIGEST

SCORERS – Waterford: Stephen Bennett 0-10 frees; Dessie Hutchinson 1-3; Patrick Curran 0-4; Michael Kiely 1-0; Shane McNulty, Austin Gleeson (1 s-cut), Jamie Barron 0-2 each; Jack Prendergast 0-1.

A whirlwind start to the second half by Waterford sunk Tipperary’s chances of a Munster Championship win in Walsh Park on Sunday.

Tipp led 1-12 to 0-11 at half time after dominating the opening period and should have been further ahead. However, inspired by the introduction of talisman Jamie Barron and Austin Gleeson at half time, Waterford went from four points down to six points up inside eleven second half minutes.

However, Tipp showed great resolve and with the help of a Mark Kehoe goal, to add to his eighth minute effort, the Premier were just adrift on 68 minutes and missed some gilt-edged chances to get back on terms before Waterford sealed the win with three unanswered points in added time.

Tipp have little time to lick their wounds as they turn their attention to facing Clare in Thurles next Sunday (2.00pm).
