Tipp projects claim Capital Funding

A raft of funding for sports clubs and related projects throughout Tipperary was announced by the government last week in the 2022 Sports Capital programme.

A total of €7.2 million has been awarded to over 100 projects in the county.

Nenagh Olympic has been granted €248,851 to develop an outdoor walking and running track on the site where it currently owns a well established indoor track at Ballygraigue.

Eire Og GAA & Camogie Club, which is in the middle of a major project to enhance its own facility and provide a new pitch and greenway between its headquarters at Gortlandroe and the Dark Road, was granted €150,000.

€300,000 was awarded to Tipperary County GAA Board for the provision of new dressing rooms at Dr Morris Park in Thurles.

Meanwhile, €245,229 has been provided for an Astro-pitch and fitness room at St. Joseph’s College in Borrisoleigh in what is seen as a big boost for camogie in Tipperary as it will fund an Astro pitch with 60 metre ball wall, floodlighting and a full gym and playing facilities which would also become a Centre of Excellence for the game.

MORE FUNDING

Among the local club's benefiting from the fund is Nenagh Golf Club which received €44,225 for the development of a golf teaching studio and tees mower. Nenagh Hockey Club got €10,996 for equipment for training and promotion of hockey.

Nenagh Lawn Tennis Club received €48,770 for a children's development project while Lough Derg Yacht Club in Dromineer received €58,715 for equipment upgrades and access improvement.

Ardcroney Football Club, got €3,455 for equipment and accessories upgrade while Ballina GAA Club received €62,617 for a ball wall, 3G lights and fencing.

Ballinahinch received €33,636 for a hurling wall and floodlighting while Birdhill Community and Recreation Association received €24,038 for a sports and recreation facility while Boher Community Development Group gets €92,949 for a multi-use games area and walking path.

Borrisokane GAA Club got €108,869 for the provision of an all weather pitch and walking track. Borrisoleigh Town Park Ltd., got €130,000 for the development of an Astro Turf pitch.

Burgess GAA Cub received €45,106 for a walking and jogging track and provision of outdoor gym equipment.

Clonakenny GAA Club got €41,516 for an Astro Turf faciliity with floodlighting and fencing. Cloughjordan Football Club received €13,512 for an Astro Turf facility and mower.

Clonmore National School received €150,000 for an Astro Turf development whilee JK Brackens GAA Club received €150,000.

Kiladangan GAA Club gets €14,298 for Phase 6 of the development of its community centre. Killavilla United FC received €42,201 for work on promoting the sustainabiliity of its grounds and for an eco-development.

Knockshegowna GAA Club got €20,884 for a walking track as well as for the development of player shelters. Lahorna Handball Club got €19,853 for a glass wall, floor and electrics.

Loughmore/Castleiney GAA Club receved €115,722 to relocate its main pitch, develop a new training pitch and install lighting. Moneygall GAA Club got €69,558 for the development of a training pitch with hurling wall and floodlights.

OTHER BENEFICIARIES

Newport's sport offering will be greatly enhanced with the provison of a planned athletics rubber track and received €41,131.

Our Lady's Secondary School in Templemore got €70,676 to provide for an extension to its Astro facility and for the the erection of lighting.

Peake Villa FC in Thurles got €27,470 for a project while Portroe GAA Club received €40,821 for the installation of a walking path around its grounds.

Presentation Secondary School Thurles got €50,533 for the upgrade of its outdoor basketball courts.

Puckane & District Tennis Club got €35,007 for resurfacing of its courts and a general upgrade of floodlighting.

Roscrea Golf Club received €15,571 for a greens mower, winter tee areas and to carry out drainage work while Roscrea Hurling Club got €41,165 for the development of a ball wall with all-weather surface and fencing.

Sean Treacy's GAA Club got €38,152 to carry out drainage on its existing playing surfaces, while Shannon Rovers GAA Club received €2,097 for certain works and the provision of equipment. Silvermines GAA Club received €20,213 for an upgrade to its floodlights and perimeter fencing.

Templemore Badminton Club, got €28,106 for Phase 3 of its development, while Templemore Golf Club received €31,338 to carry out essential drainage works to its course.

Thurles Crokes Athletic Club got €22,622 for club development, floodlighting and for the provison of a storage shed, while Thurles Gaels GAA Club got €117,020 for the develoopment of its grounds, while Thurles Golf Club got €3,019 for plastering and painting of two court walls. Thurles Rugby Football Club got €104,628 to develop new female facilities.

Toomevara GAA Club got €26,095 for its Healthy Club Support while Upperchurch Drombane got €62,768 to install lighting on its pitch.

POLITICIANS DELIGHTED

Fianna Fail TD Jackie Cahill said he was "aboslutely delighted" for all the sports organisations who received "very substantial funds", allocated by Sports Minister Jack Chambers.

Deputy Michael Lowry, who also supports the current government, pointed out that nationally, a record package of €150 million was alocated with €144 million given to almost 1,900 applications in total around the country.

Deputy Alan Kelly said he was delighted for the successful clubs and for having helped a number of them when they were making their applications originally.
