RTÉ’s hit drama, Smother is returning for a second season, much to the delight of director Dathaí Keane.

Dathaí’s father was Michael Keane, a Portumna man who lectured in Economics at NUIG. Dathaí spent many summers in Portumna visiting his grandparents in Domnick Street.

Smother is an investigative thriller about the secrets families keep from each other, set in a small town on the beautiful, wild and rugged coast of County Clare. It first aired in early 2021 and has kept us thoroughly entertained during lockdown.

With winter here again, it's good to have some great TV to look forward to.

Season two will see the Ahern family’s world rocked all over again. Just as they begin to pick up the pieces after Denis’ death, a stranger appears at their home. The stranger, Finn, reveals himself to be Denis’ estranged son, making him an unwelcome surprise for the Ahern family.
