Garda mount checkpoints in Nenagh

Gardaí in Nenagh reported a reasonably quiet Christmas, but a ramp up in checkpoints in the district over the festive period has led to the arrest of one person on suspicion of drunk driving, and there were a number of suspected breaches of public order in the town.

In Roscrea, garda seized drugs to the value of €4,700 on Thursday last, December 23.

At approximately 10:30am members of the force conducted a search of a property in the town where they discovered 47 grams of a susbtance suspected to be cocaine. A weighing scales and other drug paraphernalia were also seized. Investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, there were two arrested for drunkeness in Nenagh on Saint Stephen's Day. A male was arrested in Gortlandroe and a female was arrested for a similar offence at Ormond Drive.

One person was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving on Tuesday of this week at Gortlandroe.

The garda anti-drink drive campaign has been evident over the festive period with checkpoints operating in a number of localities in Nenagh itself and surrounding villages.
