Loughnane played in 11 finals in 1971

1971 was certainly a busy year for Francis Loughnane as he played in eleven finals with four different teams. The list is as follows:

January 29th - Munster Inter-Firms Final: Antigen 2-9 Roscrea Bacon Factory 1-11

Tadgh O’Connor also played with Antigen while The Bacon Factory had Francis Loughnane, Jackie Hannon and Patsy Roland in their side.

March 17th - In front of 20,000 spectators at Croke Park, Munster failed in their quest to complete four in a row of Railway Cups as Leinster won 2-17 to 2-12. Francis Loughnane lined out at right wing forward and scored four points.

April 11th - Roscrea defeated Glen Rovers 3-6 to 1-9 in the delayed 1969 Munster club final.

May 23rd - Tipperary were defeated by Limerick in the National Hurling League Final, 3-12 to 3-11 at the Cork Athletic Grounds.

May 29th - It was Wembley a week later as Tipp tasted defeat again with Cork coming from behind to win 3-17 to 2-9 in the St Brendan’s Tournament. Loughnane partnered Michael Keating and John Carey on the half forward line.

July 25th - Loughnane scored three points as Tipperary became Munster champions when defeating Limerick in the final at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney.

August 18th - Another Munster club final as Roscrea overcome Clarecastle 4-11 to 1-6. Loughnane scored 1-5.

September 5th - Francis Loughnane scores four points and earns the Nenagh Guardian Player of the week for his performance in Tipperary’s 22nd All-Ireland senior hurling final title win over Kilkenny.

October 3rd - It’s back to the club scene as Roscrea beat Borris-Ileigh in the North final with Loughnane scoring 2-7 in their three-point win.

October 31st - The quest for four county senior titles in a row falters when Moyne-Templetuohy create a major shock with a 2-7 to 0-5 win.

December 19th - Glory at last as Roscrea are Tipperary’s first club to win the inaugural All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling final with victory over St. Rynaghs.
